Are You a Registered Nurse Looking for Flexible Work Arrangements in British Columbia?
Calian is currently building a team of Registered Nurses in multiple cities across Canada to provide health and wellness checks for asylum seekers who are living in hotels temporarily until long-term accommodations are secured.
We are currently looking for registered nurses (RNs) who are:
- Experiencing burnout from the pandemic and looking for a non-hospital setting
- Looking for casual work (up to full-time)
- Looking for a unique opportunity to serve an incredibly vulnerable population
The work setting will be one similar to a walk-in clinic where a hotel room will be set up as an office for the Registered Nurse (RN).
Your Role & Responsibilities
RNs will do an initial health assessment upon asylum seekers' arrival to the location, then arrange for a medical checkup with a doctor or nurse practitioner within the first 30 days.
Other responsibilities include:
- Performing health and wellness checks with the claimant(s) once per shift or as required
- Maintaining health checks records
- Coordinating transfer to external services as required (hospital, urgent care, walk-in)
- Completing and safely storing documentation required for each claimant
- Administering medication if needed
- Coordinating communication with the hotel for meals, taxi service, housekeeping, laundry, etc.
- Other duties as assigned or required
“Being involved with Operation Remote Immunity was one of the greatest privileges of my nursing career. After one complete year of working as the last line of defence against this virus in one of Ottawa’s Intensive Care Units, it is difficult to express the feelings that I had when I was able to transition into the offence, administering the vaccine to some of Canada’s most vulnerable communities, bringing hope. Thank you Calian for making this experience possible.”
– Mackenna Shlaka, Ottawa RN
“My time with Calian has been incredibly positive. They are very professional, personable & flexible, ensuring I had a healthy work-life balance. Calian is an organization that can quickly adapt & overcome, most notably during the ever-changing Covid-19 pandemic. Calian provided me with many opportunities & I always feel supported by the management team and staff. I appreciated being welcomed into the team & working within their positive work environment.”
